Privacy notice

1. Who is responsible

2. Visiting the site and server logs

When you open Snugnight, our hosting provider Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Ave #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA, processes technically necessary data: IP address, date and time, the page requested, referrer, browser and operating system.

• Purpose: to deliver the site, find errors and protect it from abuse and attacks.
• Legal basis (for visitors in the EU): Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in running the site safely and reliably.
• Retention: Vercel keeps these logs only briefly and then deletes them automatically. We do not analyse them to identify people.
• Recipient: Vercel as our processor. Vercel is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

3. Visitor statistics with Vercel Web Analytics

We want to know which pages are used and which shop links are clicked. For this we use Vercel Web Analytics.

• It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device.
• Visitors are only told apart by a value calculated from the request that expires after one day. You are not recognised across days or other websites.
• It records the page, referrer, country, device type, browser and operating system, and clicks on shop links (which item, which shop, which language).
• We only see aggregated numbers, never individuals.
• Legal basis (EU): Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in improving the site.

4. Your location

If you tap "My location", your browser asks whether it may share your location with the site. We only receive coordinates if you agree.

• Purpose: to calculate the forecast for your spot and show a place name.
• Legal basis (EU): your consent, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can withdraw it at any time in your browser settings.
• Retention: we do not store the coordinates. They appear, rounded, in your browser's address bar so you can share the result.

5. Forecasts, weather history and place search

To calculate a night or find a place, our server sends requests to these services. Only the rounded coordinates or your search term are sent, not your IP address:

• Open-Meteo (Switzerland): weather forecasts, weather history and elevation.
• Photon, run by komoot GmbH (Germany): place search and place names for coordinates, based on OpenStreetMap.

Results are cached for up to a day (weather) or a few weeks (history, place names), without any link to you.

6. Map

The map loads its tiles directly from OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org). Because your browser fetches the tiles there, this service receives your IP address and which part of the map is loaded. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors.

7. Storage in your browser

• Local storage: your last gear choice (shelter, pad, bag, units), so you do not have to enter it again.
• Cookie "lang": your language choice when you switch between English and German. Valid for one year.

Both stay on your device, are not used to recognise you, and can be deleted in your browser at any time.

8. Links to shops (affiliate links)

Some links lead to shops such as Amazon or REI and are affiliate links. Nothing is sent to these shops unless you click. When you click, you leave Snugnight, and the shop's own privacy notice applies; it may set cookies to match a purchase to our link. We receive no data about you from the shops, only aggregated reports of clicks, purchases and commissions.

9. Fonts

The font is served from our own server. There is no connection to Google Fonts.

10. Contacting us by email

If you write to ad@pioneersight.com, we use your email address and message to answer you, and delete it once the matter is closed and no legal retention duty applies.

11. Transfers outside the EU

PioneerSight LLC and Vercel are based in the United States. Where personal data of visitors from the EU reaches the US, this is based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (Art. 45 GDPR) or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses (Art. 46 GDPR).

12. No obligation, no automated decisions

You do not have to give us any data. Without your location you can search for a place or tap the map. There is no automated decision-making or profiling within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR.

13. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have the right to:

• access your data
• have it corrected
• have it deleted
• restrict its processing
• data portability
• object to processing based on legitimate interests
• withdraw consent at any time, for the future

Email us at ad@pioneersight.com. If you are in the EU, you can also complain to a data protection authority. California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as defined in the CCPA.

14. Security

The site is only served encrypted over HTTPS.

15. Children

Snugnight is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

16. Changes

When the site changes, for example if ads or new services are added, we update this notice. The version published here, with the date above, applies.
